Lollapalooza 2011 / Raized by Wolves

Lollapalooza

Oh how we mau5fans have waited. and pleaded. Yesterday marked the day Deadmau5 moved from the old mau5cube set to...umm...another mau5cube set?

Do not fear, because this show came with an extra helping of awesome, due to the fact that this show was so much more live. This is due to the fact he took live synths on stage, and there was no more "cuing tracks". God knows how they synced lighting and audio up in this case.

The only problem with last night's set was that the mau5 became a drowned rat, or rather, some stuff got wet. Therefore it was not the full show and only "half" of what he will eventually have to offer. However the meowingtons hax tour is only starting off. We'll have a full rundown of the new stage as soon as the first proper tour date swings into action.

What you need to know:
  1. This isn't the full set, in terms of lighting, and possibly in time - being a festival, there were time constraints.
  2. Motors were used - groups of cubes to the sides of the stage were lifted when SOFI came on stage, then set back down when she went. However this might not be the only application for them.
  3. 4 Lighting bars set in an X formation around the mau5 were set up, which was pretty interesting.
As they say, a picture tells a thousand words:
1. Showing the cubes (from deadmau5' facebook)

2. The lighting bars
The bars also had LED strips on so could light up independently.
(also the groups of cubes were raised up at this point)

If a picture tells a thousand words, then a video tells 10 x 10^60 words. Finally, my favorite, best quality compilation of the set:

EDIT: One of the bestest quality but most limited video of deadmau5 playing Expert Griefers on his new stage here.

Ibiza

Anyway, before that, Deadmau5 visited Ibiza, and did a pretty awesome set which was also broadcast on Radio 1. You can listen here (UK only) from about 2 hours onwards for his full set.

Some cool mixes from the set; Where Are My Keys vs. Slip, October vs. Raise Your Weapon, HR 8938 Cephei vs. Raise Your Weapon. Expert Griefers was also in the set.

You can find most of the set uploaded, in parts or in full on YouTube; search for deadmau5 ibiza space 5/07.

New Mau5trap release: Raized by Wolves - The Call

These guys, Raized by Wolves (not by weapons) have just been signed to mau5trap, it seems. This song has vocals by Tom Smith from The Editors. Go give it a listen - click on the image below to listen to it courtesy of my friend Stephen over at Nothin' Gonna Change, or click this link to buy it on beatport.

As announced by TalentHouse, the new mau5head design is this cheese head design. If you want a higher resolution view, simply click the picture above!

The selected design will be produced into the next deadmau5 head for promotional events and deadmau5's signature 'Unhooked' shows. Photographs of the winning mau5head will be featured on deadmau5's official website along with details about the winner. The winner will receive 2 VIP passes to a deadmau5 performance in Los Angeles and will meet deadmau5 at an in-store event in Los Angeles in August 2011. Travel and 2 nights' accommodation for the winner plus a guest will be provided. The 5 highest voted submissions will each receive 2 VIP passes to a deadmau5 performance nearest to their location (travel and accommodation not provided).A further 5 highest voted submissions will receive official signed deadmau5 merchandise.

From the creator, Lance:
Hey everyone. I've always been a fan of his classic heads without all the bells and whistles, so I'm taking it back to lightweight basics. I've had the idea for cheese ears for a while now, kinda surprised it hasn't made an appearance yet in some form or another.

Anyways, your vote would be much appreciated if you think it deserves one. For those interested, it was made with Photoshop.

P.S. Thought I'd throw in a cheeky photo manip of him wearing it :P

Peace, Lance
Here are the rest of the finalist mau5heads. Sound off in the comments or shoutbox and tell us which one(s) you think should've won! Personally, my choices would've been the Dia de los mau5 or evil mau5 2.0. Let us know what you think! :)

Voting open for Deadmau5' new mau5head / Deer Bus will get a singer, and a name

Deadmau5' new mau5head voting now open

I think we forgot to blog about it while it was in the creative stage, however voting for Deadmau5' new mau5head over at talenthouse is now open.

Many creative minds have made a nice collection of wacky and pretty damn awesome mau5heads. It definitely surprised me how much you can do from a very simple model (the original mau5head.) Deadmau5 will be sent the top 50 mau5heads and will pick one to make. Voting ends 19th July so hurry on over to vote for your favorite mau5heads using your Facebook or Twitter accounts (or both to get 2 votes!)

Deer Bus n stuff

First of all, Deer Bus and Where are My Keys have both been ripped from recorded live sets at Ibiza and put on YouTube, in mildly high quality, thanks to Nick122020.

After deadmau5 got home to Toronto, presumably to rest and work on new music, a new set, and overall just about everything, instead he went on ustream and answered loads of questions.
This session was extremely long - the highlights being that he revealed that:
  1. The new live set will involve "heavy motors" - Possibly lots of moving parts for the set?
  2. He doesn't like projectors in lighting, for good reason
  3. Deer Bus isn't called Deer Bus. Infact he doesn't even know where this name came from. However, it does have a name
  4. ...And will also have a singer (most likely female). In this way, Deer Bus will become "the new Ghosts n Stuff"
  5. Meanwhile he played the song he was working on before he went on tour, called Obsidian. You can hear it in the beginning of this video. Very acid style
  6. He described his intentions for the next tour to be very much more live than the cube set - which will make him do lots more on stage. He will be bringing lots more equipment including lots of seperate synths
  7. He also wants to create a "tour studio" which will be a trailer type thing which will contain equipment with which he can continue to work on his tracks with, as opposed to just his macbook
  8. He expressed how if he were to make a new music video, it would have to be very well done.
I still can't wait for new music, and to see his new tour. The first show where this will all be tested will be at Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on the 7th August.

In mau5itup news, I personally am trying to cut down on the amount of flash objects on the site in posts. Alot of content with deadmau5 obviously relies on YouTube, but it is more visually pleasing to have links sometimes, and cuts down on memory usage.

Stay tuned, Psylark

Deadmau5 - Where Are My Keys / Don't Forget the Paperwork

Been a while since the last update, right? Well, let's get 2 tracks down in one go.

First one I can't believe I didn't blog it as soon as it came through, it was played at the Ministry of Sound afterparty after LED Festival on the 11th of June. I wasn't there, but for this I wish I was.

Where Are My Keys. This new unreleased track was played at the party, and was posted on YouTube by a kind person, and deadmau5 commented on the video himself, confirming the name. The original video has since been taken down however another one still exists.

It definitely shows Deadmau5 slowly progressing into different directions, but manages to keep that Deadmau5 feel to it which is always recognisable.

Click on the image to see the video.

Next up isn't really new - it's the song that many of you may know as Industrial Strength Sleeping Pills.

On the new Earl's Court DVD (that I in the UK won't be getting) this track is listed as "Don't Forget the Paperwork.". Meanwhile a high quality version of this track sharing this name popped up on a channel which is supposed to be mau5trap records (with some debate surrounding that). The track itself on this channel is a bit of a mashup of the various versions of Sleeping Pills that appeared on soundcloud. It also states that this track is "Coming 2011". Yes please.

I can say I have definitely missed this track, it got dropped out of Deadmau5' live sets and that's a shame.

Meanwhile, Deadmau5 is coming to the end of his European tour, with Exit Festival still to come with a few other shows. Then it looks like he's going to have a fortnight break...Then back to his American Meowingtons Hax tour...with a new production.

Meanwhile for mau5trap, it looks like SOFI and Skrillex's "Bring out the Devil" will be released soon - as on SOFI's facebook "shootin a vid for it tomorrow:) this summer. promise."

So I guess this will be released soon, probably with a music video.

Deadmau5 Live at Earl's Court DVD

News of this has been poking around for a while. Ultra records are set to release a DVD of video from Deadmau5' acclaimed performance at Earl's Court, London, in the UK, from 18th December 2010.

This was one of his biggest shows with 18,000 attendees, and a slightly bigger production with his cube. He also used a new "holodesk" control panel for some mixing.

Currently, I can only find it on US sites, and as it is from Ultra records one could assume it will only be released in the USA.

Click on the image up top to see the trailer.

As for the mau5 at this moment in time, he is on vacation in Ibiza, however he is set to produce a brand new live show, presumably for his Meowingtons Hax tour in America from July onwards.

From Deadmau5' Facebook:
"also in the news, i've thought out / sketched up the design and concepts for the new stage for the new live show / tours, which is defo going to one up the cube thing. problem is, we only have 4 weeks to actually make it and produce the content for it. Gotta love doing things at the last possible minute. ARGH!"

Assuming Mr. Zimmerman finishes this on time...I look forward to seeing videos of the new setup in America...and more importantly, seeing him live in the UK again. ASAP.

Victoria Park, LED Festival - I was there!

Well well, LED Festival. Quite a spectacle. I can say the mau5 was the highlight of my trip. Just a few quick impressions, the show goes MUCH too quickly. The lighting all seems much more vivid than you see in videos, and it really is IMPRESSIVE. And just in case you had any shred of doubt, yes it was a great musical experience.

Anyway, what do I have to share? The only picture I took which is mau5 related, well what is a mau5 without his cube?

Videos! Just call me Mr. Shakycam.

He played some newish stuff. He played Deer Bus. Or, that's the WIP name people are likely to remember.

Aural Psynapse, another relatively new...well...rework.

Any more videos and this post will get too long so if you want to watch the few other videos I took which are of any decency go to my channel at :

Tracklist:
1. To the Stars

In my opinion, his best EP yet. Feed Me songs just have that great warmth about them, and that perfect production quality. Mau5, look out!

Edit: It's your lucky day! 2 more beta codes donated to me kindly by Senkus..

K4F6997G

And finally, a new Skrillex EP, More Monsters and Sprites.

Mostly a remix EP, but there are 3 new tracks on it to quench your Skrillex thirst.

The versions of Ruffneck Bass aren't the original Ruffneck Bass...which is disappointing, but Skrillex has confirmed we might see it at a later date..

Ironically, this release isn't on mau5trap. It's on Big Beat / Atlantic. So I can't support it by giving you a link, can I?

Oh well.

Also just a shoutout about Skrillex's new collaboration with Foreign Beggars..."Still Gettin' It".
